Red Bull founder and sports patron Dietrich Mateschitz is dead. According to consistent media reports, all Red Bull employees were notified by email that their boss had died at the age of 78. Among other things, Red Bull Motorsport Director Helmut Marko (79) confirmed the death in an interview with the broadcaster Sky late Saturday evening. Accordingly, Mateschitz was previously in a “very serious health condition”.
Mateschitz was considered the richest Austrian for many years and created a small empire around his energy drink production. Among other things, he was involved in Formula 1 (Red Bull Racing/Toro Rosso), football (RB Leipzig/Red Bull Salzburg), ice hockey (Red Bull Munich) and numerous extreme sports. He also founded a media company that also includes the private broadcaster ServusTV. According to the Forbes list from 2022, Mateschitz was worth $15.4 billion.
Mateschitz leaves behind his partner Marion Feichtner (39) and his son Mark Mateschitz (29), who is expected to run the business in the future. Mark comes from the relationship with ex-girlfriend Anita Gerhardter.
