Even though the weather is more conducive to iced coffee at the moment, a fair number of people are already looking forward to the first days of autumn when the Pumpkin Spice really gets going. While the hype in Germany is mostly limited to the drink, pumpkin spice has become a part of the culture in other countries. In the USA, for example, the products that smell, taste or look like pumpkin spice are becoming more bizarre every year. Think of dog food, garbage bags, hummus or cough drops. But the most expensive item on the list comes from the UK: A Pumpkin Spice Latte engagement ring.
Last year, British jeweler Angelica Diamond launched the “perfect accessory to spice up your coffee cup selfies.” According to the company, the piece is intended to “add some spice” to marriage proposals and jewelry collections this time of year. It is the world’s first pumpkin spice latte ring and at the same time the “perfect ring if it’s love at first sip.”
Every detail is inspired by the popular autumn drink. The rose gold shape is meant to replicate the outline of a pumpkin. The sides are decorated with small diamonds, orange sapphires and green emeralds. The stones are all intended to be reminiscent of the colors of autumn – but also optionally of the green and white Starbucks logo. The “centerpiece” of the ring is a whipped cream-shaped diamond surrounded by more diamonds and orange sapphires in a cup-shaped claw. The piece is intended to capture “the essence of a steaming cup of pumpkin spice.”
Although the ring looks more like a flower from above, the engraving leaves no doubt as to the source of inspiration. “Pumpkin Spiced” can be read on the inside of the piece. So you can safely take the ring to your grave and ensure that archaeologists immediately understand the pumpkin spice reference a hundred years later, jokes “Food
And “Fox News” asked last year: “Has the fall trend gone too far?” Because anyone who thinks that the Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks is already expensive will surely choke on the autumnal coffee given the price for the diamond, sapphire and emerald version: the accessory is said to cost 10,000 British pounds – the equivalent of around 11,600 euros. This is undoubtedly the most luxurious Pumpkin Spice product. The packaging should also be luxurious: The ring comes in an orange pumpkin spice box, including a cardboard coffee cup packaging and a tiny pumpkin on the clasp. From the inside – you already guessed it – the box smells of pumpkin spice.
See in the gallery: “Jungle” is the motto of this year’s world’s largest pumpkin exhibition in Ludwigsburg. Visitors can see crocodiles, chameleons and monkeys – sculptures made from the popular autumn vegetables.
