On Tuesday and Wednesday, April 4 and 5, 2023, respectively, the quarter-finals of this year’s DFB Cup are on the program. The public broadcasters are showing three of the four games live on free TV. Only one game runs exclusively on Sky. The pay TV channel is the only broadcaster to broadcast all four matches.

The third-to-last round of the cup competition this season has more top-class players than it has had in a long time. Among the last eight teams are the current top 6 of the Bundesliga table – and they play directly against each other. A “slip” is only the game of Bundesliga tail light VfB Stuttgart against second division basement child 1. FC Nuremberg.

The match between Bundesliga sixth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt and third-placed Union Berlin begins the quarter-finals on April 4th. ZDF and Sky broadcast live from Deutsche Bank Park.

Kick-off is at 6 p.m., but on ZDF the preliminary reports with moderator Jochen Breyer (40) begin at 5:40 p.m.

On Tuesday evening, the first takes over the transmission on free TV. At 8:45 p.m. the top game between the league leaders Bayern Munich and SC Freiburg, which is in 4th place in the table, starts.

The broadcast on ARD begins at 8:15 p.m.

The most unattractive meeting of the quarter-finals on paper is not on free TV. Sky exclusively broadcasts the guest appearance of bottom VfB Stuttgart at 1. FC Nürnberg, the only remaining non-first division club.

At VfB, the new coach Sebastian Hoeneß (40) is on the sidelines for the first time. Yesterday he inherited the sacked Bruno Labbadia (57).

The defending champion rounds off the quarter-finals: RB Leipzig welcomes Borussia Dortmund. This is not just a duel between second in the table (Dortmund) and fifth, but also a new edition of the DFB Cup final for the 2020/2021 season. At that time, Dortmund clearly prevailed 4-1.

ZDF starts at 8.15 p.m. with the preliminary reports.

The winners of the quarterfinals meet in the semifinals on May 2nd and 3rd. The final will take place on June 3rd.
