Denmark’s Queen Margrethe II announced her attendance at the coronation of King Charles III. Canceled in London in early May. After her back operation in February, she was still busy with her rehabilitation and would not be traveling to Great Britain, a spokesman for the Danish court confirmed to the German Press Agency on request. Instead, their son, Crown Prince Frederik, and his wife, Crown Princess Mary, will attend the May 6 ceremony.
It was the second back operation for the monarch. Because of the procedure, she has canceled numerous major appointments, postponed them, or transferred them to her son and daughter-in-law. For her birthday on Sunday, however, she wants to show herself to her compatriots from the balcony of her Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen and resume at least parts of her work from there.
