A great German actor embodies a German fashion legend: Daniel Brühl (45) becomes the late Karl Lagerfeld (1933-2019) for the new series “Kaiser Karl”. The streaming service Disney is now at least hinting at what Brühl will look like in his role in a first image that was published on Instagram, among other places.

Unfortunately, only the silhouette of Brühl in his role can be seen in the picture, but the streaming service will probably share more impressions shortly. According to Disney, the French series, which will tell of Lagerfeld’s rise in the Paris high fashion world of the 1970s, will appear soon. However, the service has not yet announced an exact start date.

Developed by Isaure Pisani-Ferry, Jennifer Have and Raphaëlle Bacqué, “Kaiser Karl” will show “a mixture of romance, ambition and the tireless pursuit of recognition,” according to a press release. Bacqué is the author of the biography of the same name on which the series is based. Jérôme Salle and Audrey Estrougo direct.

Brühl himself also published the picture on Instagram and raves about his work on the series. It was “an extraordinary adventure for me, a true honor and a privilege to embody Karl Lagerfeld,” explains the actor. It is an experience that he would like to share with his fans soon.

“Being able to play the iconic character Karl Lagerfeld is a gift and a fantastic challenge,” Brühl reported in an initial statement at the beginning of 2023. At the time he was filming in Lagerfeld’s adopted home of Paris. The actor has also already explained that he moves “in a complex world that is about much more than just fashion.”
