The 5. august of this year the unthinkable happened, as the 22-year-old belgian cyclist Bjorg Lambrecht died after a crash.

the Fall was so violent that it cost the Lotto Soudal rider life after the 3. stage in Poland, where the accident took place.

Now tells the Danish Rasmus Byriel Iversen, who knew Bjorg Lambrecht and was a teammate with him about the incident. He does so in podcastmediet Forhjulslirs advent calendar.

“It fills of course, the super much. It was a big shock that it just happened out of the blue,” says Rasmus Byriel Iversen.

Lambrecht lost control of his bike on a smooth road, therefore, hit it into some concrete pipes on the roadside. He was transported to a hospital in the city of Rybnik, where doctors could not save his life, and he died on the operating table.

A liver injury caused internal bleeding which meant that the young belgian died of a cardiac arrest.

But the 22-year-old Rasmus Byriel Iversen tells that he is in no way forgotten with Lotto Soudal.

“We try to use it as motivation and try to fulfill the dreams he had for him. We try to remember him, now where we can,” says Rasmus Byriel Iversen, who has his own, special gestures, to his now deceased team mate.

“We have some stickers on cars and buses, and I always run around with a bracelet, where his name is on just to give the last,” he reveals in the podcast-the christmas calendar.

Bjorg Lambrecht was reminded of 4. stage of Poland, and his former teammates from Lotto Soudal given the victory on the stage, which the organisers had decided. Still to this day fill he on the team.

“Yes, we’re talking once in a while about him, it makes it because. But we also try to look forward. So instead of being sad about it, we are trying to use it as motivation to make ourselves better,” acknowledges the Rasmus Byriel Iversen.

Bjorg Lambrecht was in his second season as a professional, and he was regarded as one of Belgium’s biggest talents.
