The cult comedian Otto Waalkes has two specific wishes for his 75th birthday in a few days: “That many more will follow and an ice cream cake,” said the East Frisian of the German Press Agency in Hamburg. Waalkes’ birthday is July 22nd. Born in Lower Saxony, he has been raging across the various stages of the entertainment industry for more than 50 years. When asked what has kept him so young and energetic over the past few decades, the Hamburger by choice said: “Exactly this romping around – and if it gets too much for me, I go to the easel and paint.”
Otto’s career started in the early 1970s with silly puns and parodies on small stages and clubs. The comedian is now also an actor, director, musician, painter and voice actor. Waalkes also invented the Ottifanten – drawn elephants with a resemblance to himself.
