It’s not just the United States that is looking spellbound to New York today: Former President Donald Trump has to appear in court there for the indictment reading. He is accused of lying about hush money payments to cover up an affair with porn actress Stormy Daniels. But while the criminal consequences are not yet foreseeable, there is one thing he probably does not have to worry about at the moment: his marriage to Melania.

This is reported by “People”, citing an anonymous source close to the ex-president. “Melania will support him. That’s who she is. They’re family,” the source quoted People as saying. “Melania and Donald were both shocked when they heard about the charges. They didn’t expect it,” says the source.

The two would have continued to live their lives quite normally until Trump’s departure and believed to the end that there would be no charges. They received a group of guests on Thursday and didn’t seem upset. “As always, the drama surrounds them and they wade through it. It’s a part of their lives.”

Melania is more surprised than emotionally affected by the charges, the source said. She is particularly annoyed that charges have actually been filed. That doesn’t mean, however, that she has forgiven her husband for cheating. “She’s still angry about it and doesn’t want the hush money payments to be discussed in front of her.”

That Trump cheated on her is not new information for Melania. The affair with Daniels was 17 years ago, and Melania had just given birth to their son Baron. She found out about her husband’s infidelity in 2016 at the latest: Shortly before he was elected president, the affair and its cover-up became known around the world and made a lot of headlines. However, rumors that Melania would split from Donald after the presidency never materialized.
