The comeback of Jella Haase (31) in her star role as Chantal from the popular “Fack Ju Göhte” series is increasingly turning out to be a box office hit in the cinemas. Now “Chantal in Fairytale Land” by Bora Dagtekin (45) has cracked the magic number of one million viewers in cinemas and is consequently at the top of the current cinema charts after a week of play. With a 37 percent market share, the comedy was already the best reboot of a German film since “The Perfect Secret” from 2019 and the most successful Easter opening weekend for a German film ever.
In addition to Jella Haase, the film features a whole range of top-class actors. Max von der Groeben (32), Nora Tschirner (42), Frederick Lau (34), Alexandra Maria Lara (45), Elena Uhlig (48), Nikeata Thompson (43) and Jannik Schümann (31), among others, also play . Jasmin Tabatabai (56) and Elyas M’Barek (41), the star of the “Fack Ju Göhte” films, also make guest appearances. Florian David Fitz (49) and Benno Führmann (52) can also be heard as guest voices.
Jella Haase herself spoke in detail about her new and old role of Chantal in an interview with the news agency spot on news. She wasn’t afraid that the character was past her zenith: “I was really excited about the fact that the character was put in a completely different context, in a more feminist context. In fairytale land, Chantal really becomes a heroine. That was a big one , great gift and I was really happy about it.”
In “Chantal in Fairytale Land”, the main character, who has failed as an influencer, goes through a mirror into a fairytale world and is confronted with all sorts of characters and stories. Together with her friend Zeynep (played by Gizem Emre, 28), she fights against curses, a tyrannical king and fairy tale clichés to preserve friendships and find a way back to the real world. Chantal also has to deal with a prince who wants to get married.
