Pop star and actress Jennifer Lopez is proud of her new official last name. “People will continue to call me Jennifer Lopez, but my official name will be Mrs. Affleck because we’re connected,” the 53-year-old, who said yes to actor Ben Affleck in July, told Vogue. “We’re husband and wife. I’m proud of that.”
She can understand when married couples decide that the man takes the woman’s surname, the singer explained. However, she emphasized that her own decision does not make her feel that she has given up power or control. “I just think it’s romantic. It still carries tradition and romance to me and maybe I’m just that kind of girl.”
Lopez and Affleck married in July in Las Vegas and in August at a larger ceremony at Affleck’s Georgia home. The singer then signed her “On the JLo” newsletter with the name Jennifer Lynn Affleck. The Latina star and the Hollywood actor were a couple around 20 years ago, but then called off their engagement and split in January 2004.
