Wim Wenders (77) is returning to the Cannes Film Festival this year with two films. The German director, who last won the Palme d’Or in 1984 with “Paris, Texas”, is showing his work “Perfect Days” in the competition. The documentary “The Noise of Time” will be presented in a special screening.

The festival will be opened by Johnny Depp’s (59) first film in three years, the historical film “Jeanne du Barry” by French actress and director Maïwenn (46). Depp’s embodiment of King Louis XV. (1710-1774) is his first major role since the court case with his ex-wife Amber Heard (36).

Other big names in out-of-competition films include Robert De Niro (79) and Leonardo DiCaprio (48), who can be seen in Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” (80). There is a comeback for Harrison Ford (80), who will once again slip into his cult role of the whip-wielding archaeologist in “Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Destiny”. “Euphoria” creator Sam Levinson (38) also presents his new series “The Idol” out of competition.

A total of 19 films compete for the Palme d’Or, including “Asteroid City” by Wes Anderson (53) with Scarlett Johansson (38). Todd Haynes (62) competes with his latest work “May December”. The main roles are played by Natalie Portman (41) and Julianne Moore (62). And director Jonathan Glazer (58) shows his first full-length feature film in ten years, the Holocaust drama “The Zone of Interest” with Sandra Hüller (44). The “Toni Erdmann” actress will also appear in the film “Anatomie d’une chute” by French filmmaker Justine Triet (44).

This year, with six female filmmakers, more women than ever before are represented in the competition. In addition to Triet, these are Catherine Breillat, Ramata-Toulaye Sy, Kaouther Ben Hania, Jessica Hausner and Alice Rohrwacher.

The 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival will take place from May 16th to 27th this year.
