The cabaret artist and actor Ottfried Fischer celebrated his 70th birthday with friends and family in a Munich tavern. The TV star sat in a wheelchair and happily accepted congratulations and gifts. “I see a lot of people here and I’m very happy that they’re here and that we’re spending a nice afternoon together,” he said.
The well-wishers included the actress Michaela May, the former soccer star Paul Breitner, the cabaret artists Willy Astor and Hannes Ringlstetter, the musicians Hans-Jürgen “Haindling” Buchner and John Jürgens. Former Finance Minister Theo Waigel and Munich’s ex-mayor Christian Ude also celebrated.
Michaela May has known “Otti” since filming the series “Somehow and Sowieso”, which was shown on Bavarian television in 1986, and values him as a very loyal friend, as she said on the sidelines of the celebration. She admired his “extreme speed and sharpness, which he still retains.” She wished him to stay fit in his head.
Fischer, who was born in Lower Bavaria, started his career in the 1980s with “Somehow and Sowieso” and “Zur Freiheit”. From the 1990s he hosted his cult cabaret show “Ottis Schlachthof”. In 1995, Fischer slipped into the role of the grumpy inspector Benno Berghammer for the first time in “The Bull of Tölz”. In recent years, the star, who suffers from Parkinson’s disease, has rarely been seen in public.
