The American superstar Bruce Springsteen (73) receives a special award. The rock legend is awarded the US Artist’s Medal of Honor. The medal will be presented by US President Joe Biden (80) in a ceremony in the White House on Tuesday (March 21). This was announced by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).

In addition to Springsteen, the actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus (62), actress Mindy Kaling (43), fashion designer Vera Wang (73), singer Gladys Knight (78) and singer Jose Feliciano (77) are also honored. The National Medal of Arts is the highest honor an artist can receive from the US government. Interested parties can follow the event from 9:30 p.m. via live stream. First Lady Jill Biden (71) will also be present.

Because of the corona pandemic, the ceremony did not take place in 2021 and 2022, so the recipients of 2021 are only now receiving their awards. Biden will also award the National Humanities Medal.

Bruce Springsteen is recognized as one of America’s “greatest artists and storytellers”. “His music celebrates our triumphs, heals our wounds, and gives us hope by capturing the unyielding spirit of what it means to be American,” the statement said. The “National Medal of Arts” was created in the 1980s. The award is given to artists every year. Previous winners include Dolly Parton (77), Bob Dylan (81) and Ray Charles (1930-2004).
