The guitarist of the British rock band Queen, Brian May, was greeted by King Charles III at Buckingham Palace in London. (74) received the accolade. Pictures showed the 75-year-old rock star kneeling in front of the monarch as he touched his shoulders with a blade. May is now allowed to call himself “Sir Brian”.
The guitar virtuoso told the British news agency PA that the band could still go on tour this year. “We’re thinking about touring, that’s all I can say,” May said. He added, “I’m hoping to stay in good health – I seem to be pretty fit right now, which is always a good thing.”
May only appeared in front of Buckingham Palace last June for the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s throne. The then 96-year-old monarch, who died a few months later, also recorded a video. In this, she apparently drank tea with the film character Paddington Bear and, at the same time, drummed the beat of the Queen hit “We Will Rock You” with a spoon on a teacup. At a performance 20 years ago, May also played the guitar on the roof of Buckingham Palace.
