At 76 years old, Queen Camilla is carrying an entire kingdom on her shoulders almost alone. After his cancer diagnosis, her husband Charles is out of work due to complex and exhausting examinations. Camilla’s daughter-in-law, Princess Kate, is currently in rehab after her abdominal surgery.
Although Prince William and Princess Anne try to support Camilla wherever they can, she still attends many of the king’s appointments. Like last week at the memorial service for the late King Constantine II of Greece – at this event Prince William spontaneously canceled his participation “for personal reasons”, so all eyes were on Camilla.
However, it slowly seems to be too much for the monarch. Every day she is a nurse, wife and queen all in one. That’s why, according to reports from The Sunday Times, among others, she is said to have planned a break. Next Monday we are scheduled to head towards the sun in a private jet.
In the meantime, Prince William and Princess Anne will temporarily take over royal duties, it is said. Queen Camilla is due back in action on March 11 to represent the King at the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey. Her sick husband Charles is expected to release a video message to mark the occasion.
A royal source told the Sunday Times: “Although she did not expect to take on the role of head of the family, the Queen is absolutely committed to doing whatever is necessary for the institution.”
And the Royals’ fans motivate her: “The positive response from the public has given her a boost. She has discovered unexpected reserves of energy that she never thought she had. The recognition that she has received in the palace has been since their acceptance of responsibility has increased.” A close confidant of the Queen added: “Her Majesty is strong, optimistic and determined to continue her service while the King is not currently active in public.” The king was “proud and pleased to see how the queen and the entire family are handling the situation.”
