Thanks to hits like “I Should Be So Lucky” and “Can’t Get You Out of My Head,” Kylie Minogue (55) achieved pop legend status many years ago. In just a few weeks, the British Music Industry Association (BPI) will officially make her an international music icon once again. The Melbourne, Australia-born singer and actress will be honored with the Global Icon Award at the Brit Awards 2024.
Minogue is overjoyed to have received the award and to now belong to an illustrious group of artists, she explains in a statement. “The United Kingdom has always been my second home, so the BRITs have a very special place in my heart,” enthuses the 55-year-old.
“I’ve made great memories of the awards ceremony over the years and can’t wait to get back on the BRITs stage. See you at the O2!” The organizers and Minogue also confirmed that the singer will appear at the awards ceremony. Or, to put it like on Instagram: “The queen herself will also be on stage.”
According to the BPI, the Icon Prize is the highest award given by the Brit Awards and is reserved for exceptional artists. Previous winners include Taylor Swift (34), Elton John (76), David Bowie (1947-2016) and Robbie Williams (50).
If it’s purely based on the numbers, Minogue definitely deserves to be included in the exclusive club. According to BPI, she has sold over 80 million records worldwide in more than 30 years, has reached number one with nine albums in Great Britain alone and has more than five billion streams. The award ceremony will take place on March 2nd.
