They are musicians through and through: the likeable Kaulitz twins Bill and Tom (34). But when the “rich and famous” stop off in L.A. for awards season, there’s only one question for Bill: Where’s the next party? In the latest episode of their joint podcast “Kaulitz Hills – Mustard from Hollywood”, Bill shares a few anecdotes from his all-night Oscar night.

Tom and Bill have been living in L.A. since 2010 and are part of the Hollywood party scene. So it’s appropriate that they use the Oscar nights for extensive party forays. Bill quickly gets into raptures: “The city is full, the rich and famous are there right now. It’s the Oscars, it’s the awards season. There’s construction going on everywhere and the streets are closed: parties everywhere.” Then he drops the bombshell: “I was partying again with Leonardo DiCaprio, Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak.” The fact that Tom teases him as a “name dropper” doesn’t bother him much. Bill boasts that he only went around “with the absolute A-list.”

Bill further reports that the party caravan “crashed into some music studio” at five in the morning – the studio of rapper Anderson Paak (38), to be precise. But Bill can only share Tom’s enthusiasm (“I would have liked to have been there!”) to a limited extent. “It’s really funny: When people are drunk, they all want to talk about music and jam together. It’s kind of cute, but I’m not the type of guy who makes music with other people. I feel like they’re like, ‘Hey ‘There’s the Tokio Hotel singer, now come and jam around with us.’ But when I’m out and partying, I tend to think: No, I’m not traveling for work right now.”

Tom sees it completely differently: “When I’m really, really, really full, then I’m up for it. If there’s a guitar lying around, I like to play around with it a bit.” Bill continues: “Someone sits down in the studio and sings and plays drums and guitar at the same time. My friends were very impressed and thought he was ‘insane’ and ‘absolutely unbelievable’. But while they want to stay for another hour, I think to myself : We wanted to go to the next party. Where’s the next drink? I can never get involved like that, I’m such a stressed mouse.”

Tom’s explanation for Bill’s aversion to jamming with other celebrities is simple: “You’re used to playing with the hottest band in the world. And when you play in the hottest band in the world, nothing can impress you.”
