This object is exactly what Horst Lichter likes: In the expert room of “Bares for Rares” there is a huge tire. “That was still the time of Formula 1, when things really got going,” says the moderator. A passion that still slumbers in lights: “I still love it. I’m ashamed,” he admits.
Hubert Hübinger brought the monster from Jüchen. The 69-year-old merchant won the tire at a racing show in 1982. But now he wants to part with it, his grandson has no interest in it.
The tire was manufactured by the Goodyear company and is made of 75 percent rubber, explains expert Detlev Kümmel. It is a slick intended for driving on dry roads. The object is particularly interesting because of the signatures on it. Among others, the drivers Nico Rosberg, Mika Häkkinen, Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Hans-Joachim Stuck, Jean Alesi and Michael Schumacher signed it.
Hübinger would like 2500 euros for his sweetheart. Horst Lichter doesn’t agree with that at all: “It won’t work,” he replies, without waiting for the expertise. But Detlev Kümmel agrees with the moderator. He estimates the value at 1500 to 2000 euros. The seller still wants to try his luck in the dealer room.
But there the bids are coming in only slowly. Julian Schmitz-Avila starts with 200 euros, the price slowly creeps up in 20-euro increments. Hubert Hübinger looks at it for a while and then throws the expertise into the room. Daniel Meyer then offers 1,000 euros, but that’s not enough for the seller. He prefers to take the tire home with him.
He has earned respect from the dealers with his consistent attitude: “Super likeable when people are so passionate about something,” praises Schmitz-Avila.
