Barbra Streisand (81) has had a great career. She has enjoyed worldwide success over the past decades as both a singer, actress and director. Nevertheless, there may never be another film in which Streisand plays a leading role.

Streisand last appeared in a film in 2012. In “On the Road with Mum” she played Seth Rogen’s (41) film mother. In an interview with the US magazine “People” she now explains that she “doesn’t really” want to make any more films. Streisand talks about a previously planned film version of the musical “Gypsy”. In 2009 she first fought for the rights to play the character. “In other words, it’s exhausting to think up the structure of the film and then not make it happen.”

“I had such good films to make, meaning they were about things that were close to my heart, very interesting subjects,” Streisand continues, asking the question: “Why have I only made 19 films in my life?” She wanted to make a lot of films, but then she got “lazy”. She tells herself that for one project she would need a lot of contemporary clothing, for another she would even have to live in Arkansas. “I don’t know. It’s complicated, but I’m complicated, I guess,” explains the 81-year-old.

In this context, Streisand also addresses the difference between her and the late actress Bette Davis (1908-1989). “Bette Davis made 80 films. I made 19,” says Streisand. “She’s a wonderful actress and enjoyed working. I like leisure.”

She is currently on a promotional tour for her book “My Name Is Barbra”, which was published in November, and is very busy. She didn’t expect that and hoped to be able to spend free time with her husband James Brolin (83), with whom she has been married since 1998. “It’s work,” she explains. “For some reason I thought, ‘I’ll finish the book and then I’ll get in the car with my husband and we’ll just drive somewhere’.”
