“Barbie: The Album”, the soundtrack to the comedy “Barbie” directed by Greta Gerwig (39), has conquered the British single charts and broken previous records, according to the Official Charts Company. It is the first soundtrack to a film to achieve three top five songs simultaneously.
The thoughtful “What Was I Made For?” by American singer Billie Eilish (21) is number three this week, while Dua Lipa’s (27) “Dance The Night” is now number four. The reworking of “Aqua’s Barbie World” by rappers Nicki Minaj (40) and Ice Spice (23) secured fifth place.
The “Barbie” album, which boasts an all-star cast, also features Charli XCX’s (30) energetic “Speed Drive”. Meanwhile, Ryan Gosling’s (42) dramatic ballad “I’m Just Ken” and Lizzo’s (35) upbeat “Pink” are also in the top 40.
The film about the Mattel doll, starring Margot Robbie (33) and Ryan Gosling, was released in UK cinemas last week and has taken the box office as well as Germany and the US by storm.
