Former US President Barack Obama (61) performed in the Mercedes-Benz Arena during his three-day visit to Berlin. In a one-hour conversation with moderator Klaas Heufer-Umlauf (39) on Wednesday evening (May 3), he chatted about politics and climate change as well as about his wife Michelle (59).

“She says I’m wrong ten times a day,” he joked, according to the “Berliner Zeitung” at the “Evening with President Barack Obama”. Similar events have previously taken place in Zurich and Amsterdam. There Obama had said that his wife Michelle and daughters Sasha (21) and Malia (24) were much more popular than he was. Klaas Heufer-Umlauf alluded to this in an Instagram post after the talk in Switzerland: “Yesterday together with the fourth most popular member of the Obama family (according to his own statement).”

In Berlin, Barack Obama met with former Chancellor Angela Merkel (68) and her husband Joachim Sauer (74) for dinner. In an interview with Klaas Heufer-Umlauf he described Merkel as an “old friend”. On Wednesday afternoon he had lunch with Olaf Scholz (64). The Chancellor later thanked Obama on his Instagram profile for his commitment “to democracy, tolerance and reason”.

The 44th President of the USA (2009-2017) also recorded his visit to Berlin on Instagram and recalled an appointment for his charitable foundation, the Obama Foundation. “These young people are committed to strengthening our communities and advancing democracy.”

It was the fifth time that Barack Obama has visited Berlin. On Thursday (May 4th) he will travel to the USA again. “I’m happy to see my wife again,” he announced.
