Three “1Live crowns” for one artist in one evening – this has never happened before and it must be celebrated: Ski Aggu is the big winner at this year’s coveted music awards ceremony.

After the second honor in the Bielefeld locomotive shed there was no stopping him: “Pursue your goals, pursue your dreams. I did it, you can do it too,” the musician in the astronaut outfit called out to his fans before he left He danced off the stage throwing his crown in the air.

The rapper with the ski goggles and mullet hairstyle was not only voted the best newcomer by the listeners of the young WDR wave. Together with the rap crew 01099, he was also honored for the hip-hop hit “Anders”. Ski Aggu also won in the “Best Song” category – with the party hit “Friesenjung”, which he also performed together with Otto Waalkes and Joost to start the evening. The catchy number set the tone: This year’s Krone Awards will be wild, energetic and great fun.

An evening with lots of music

The lavish party with award presentation took place in Bielefeld for the first time. After years in the spacious Bochum Jahrhunderthalle, the makers wanted to focus on the more intimate club atmosphere of the Bielefeld Lokschuppen. 1200 guests celebrated themselves and the winners of the evening.

Hip-hop artists prevailed in the premier categories: Nina Chuba (“Mangos with Chili”, “Wildberry Lillet”) once again took home the award as best artist – the third crown in her young career. This year, the radio audience crowned the German rapper Cro (“Crobot”, “Easy”) as the best artist. The musician with the panda mask thanked us via video message from Bali.

The group Kraftklub won “Best Live Act”. It is now the seventh crown for the indie band from Chemnitz, just like it was for the musician Casper: with the track “Summer,” which he recorded together with Cro, he won in the “Best Alternative Song” category. Newcomer Bennett presented the most popular dance song with “Vois sur ton chemin”.

Instead of lengthy eulogies, there was a lot of music again this year: The recently reunited US indie band Gossip led by Beth Ditto performed a medley of old classics and the brand new single “Crazy Again”. The art-pop band Giant Rooks was on stage with, among others, Paula Hartmann.

Praise for Jan Delay

Two awards in the evening were no surprise: The twins Bill and Tom Kaulitz, who became known as Tokio Hotel but are now successful with their own podcast or as coaches in the casting show “Voice of Germany”, were crowned in the category for their entertainer qualities “Best Entertainment” award. In the year that hip-hop turned 50, the editorial team also named the nasal all-rounder Jan Delay as the winner of the special prize.

“He simply took everything from the music buffet,” praised presenter Donya Farahani. “We also have him to thank for the fact that hip-hop is so big in Germany today,” says Farahani. Delay thanked fans, musical companions and the radio station 1Live, “because they always support new, cool and fresh music,” as he emphasized.

Westdeutscher Rundfunk calls the crown “Germany’s biggest music prize.” The Audience Award has now been awarded for the 24th time – and is therefore older than many of the program’s listeners.

At the end of the year, the award ceremony is always a big party for the German music industry. “Everyone is here. It’s a bit like a Christmas party,” said DJ Felix Jaehn before the show. Whoever is particularly popular at the moment is nominated. Listeners are then invited to vote for their favorites online until the day before the awards ceremony.
