Finding accommodation is difficult everywhere. In most cases and countries, if you need more space, you have to dig deep into your pockets. But if you have the necessary change, a property in the north of England could be of interest: Appleby Castle is for sale. Built in the 12th century, parts of the castle are listed as historical monuments.
25 hectares of parkland invite you to stroll and garden. Potential buyers can find out more about the “jewel in the Eden Valley” on the British real estate service “Rightmove”. The castle has 22 rooms and 19 bathrooms and therefore offers the perfect conditions for a hotel or restaurant business. “The castle also has a 15th-century dining room with high ceilings and a great hall from the same period; a second great hall dates from the 12th century,” says Rightmove.
“In addition to the many historic features, the main building also offers many modern amenities, including a fitness room, hot tub and sauna, game room, and numerous storage rooms,” the description reads. If you want to do some sport, you can also do so on the tennis court.
The castle is currently owned by Sally Nightingale, who is sad about the sale. “Saying goodbye will be a huge blow for me. I’m terribly sad and feel very emotionally attached to the building, but now is the time to hand over the keys,” Nightingale is quoted as saying by ITV. “We’ve done a lot since I’ve been here. To tell you the truth, it’s been a labor of love,” she explained.
Most recently, the castle was also used for charitable events. “There are school groups that do school plays here, lots of events including various balls and Christmas banquets,” the previous castle manager Peter Bass told ITV.
For 9.5 million pounds (the equivalent of around 11 million euros), the new owner would be free to decide what to do with Appleby Castle.
