The Hamburg neighborhood giant Klaus Barkowsky is dead. This is reported by several media, including the “Bild” newspaper and the “Hamburger Abendblatt”. He died at the age of 69.

Born in Hamburg in 1953, the ex-pimp and artist became known as “Lamborghini-Klaus” or “the beautiful Klaus”. In the 1980s he was the leader of the “Nutella Gang”, a group of pimps in St. Pauli. Most recently he lived and worked as an artist in his hometown. In his last interview with “Bild”, he explained that St. Pauli is no longer what it used to be. “Many people from the past have died, people have changed. St. Pauli used to be a family. Today everyone is just for themselves.”

His life was covered in the Amazon series “Luden – Könige der Reeperbahn”. It is set in Hamburg in the 1980s and tells of the change from the eponymous street to a wicked party mile. Right in the middle: Klaus Barkowsky (Aaron Hilmer, 23), who blossoms into the strong man of a pimp cartel that is taking control of the neighborhood with increasing violence. “Luden – Könige der Reeperbahn” has been running on the streaming service since March 3rd.
