Reassuring news from the Vatican: As the website “Vatican News” reports, among other things, Pope Francis (86) is now on the mend after his hospitalization yesterday. His spokesman Matteo Bruni (46) said that the head of the church was still in the Gemelli Clinic in Rome, but was able to do some tasks again. He used the afternoon to rest and pray. Francis was diagnosed with bronchitis on an infectious basis, it said. He was given antibiotic therapy with the help of infusions.
In the coming days, depending on the course, he could probably leave the clinic. However, the drugs would already show a significant improvement in his state of health. It is not yet known to what extent the Pope will be able to take part in the Easter celebrations next week. On Wednesday evening, the report of the Pope’s hospitalization caused great concern. At first it was only said that Pope Francis did not have a corona infection, but had breathing difficulties that required treatment in a clinic.
The Argentine has long complained of health problems. In 2021, the 86-year-old also underwent bowel surgery at the Agostino Gemelli University Hospital in Rome. Because of persistent knee problems, Francis has also been leaning on a cane or sitting in a wheelchair for months. At the age of only 21, the Pope had to have part of his right lung removed after suffering from severe pneumonia.
