A big benefit concert is reportedly being planned in London to help the victims of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This is reported by the British tabloid “The Sun”. The organizers have therefore asked U2, The Rolling Stones, The Killers and Pink for it. The show is set to take place at Wembley on June 24, according to the newspaper. An insider reportedly told the newspaper: “It’s going to be huge.”
Stars who are “probably” also to be asked included Sir Paul McCartney (80), Adele (34), the band Florence And The Machine and Noel Gallagher (55). The event will be televised worldwide. Now that the date is set, invitations to the gigs should quickly go to the biggest names in the industry, the source said. Of course, one is aware that it is relatively short-term and that many superstars will already have other commitments, it is said.
The insider also told The Sun: “The only minor downside is that the date will clash with Glastonbury so some big names are left out, but the final cast will certainly be special.” The English Glastonbury Festival takes place from June 21st to 25th this year. Elton John (75) will give his last concert in Great Britain there.
The event for Ukraine at Wembley Stadium is said to be organized along the lines of Live Aid. At the concert in 1985 at the same location, money was raised for the victims of the famine in Ethiopia. Among those present were Queen, U2, Bob Dylan, Madonna, Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Sting, the Beach Boys, Tina Turner, The Who, Led Zeppelin and Elvis Costello. “Live Aid” was the biggest rock concert in history up to that point.
