When news of the Queen’s death spread around the world, her grandson Prince Harry was still on the plane that took him to Scotland. The Queen is said to have died in the afternoon in the presence of her son Prince Charles, now King, and her daughter Anne.
At noon, the monarch’s doctors announced that they were concerned about the health of the 96-year-old. Although her closest relatives immediately set off, hardly anyone arrived in time to say goodbye. Harry arrived in the evening around 8pm UK time. He is said to have been the last of the immediate family to reach the estate in Scotland.
Normally, Prince Harry and his family live in California. But he and his wife Meghan are currently touring through Europe. They were also in Düsseldorf earlier in the week to promote the upcoming 2023 Invictus Games. When the Queen’s health began to deteriorate mid-week, her grandson had already arrived in London with his wife. Despite the short flight time from London to Aberdeen in Scotland, Prince Harry was no longer able to say goodbye to his grandmother on his deathbed.
The British news magazine “Daily Mail” now reports that after just twelve hours near his family at Balmoral Castle, the prince packed his bags again and was the first to leave the property all alone. He was spotted at Aberdeen Airport around 9am, which is more than an hour’s drive from the castle. Prince Harry must have got up in the early hours of the morning and left the castle.
According to the Telegraph news portal, Prince Harry is said to have made his way to London on a passenger plane. The plane is scheduled to land around 11:30 a.m. UK time. Duchess Meghan did not travel to Scotland and stayed in the British capital. Together, however, they made a mark. Since Thursday they have dedicated their entire website Archewell.com to the late Queen and wrote: “In loving memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. 1926-2022”.
