Since Chris Hemsworth (40) accidentally learned that he was at increased risk of one day developing Alzheimer’s, the Marvel hero has changed a lot in his life. The Thor actor’s impressive physique proves that the star is willing to train his muscles with iron discipline. Now he’s just as willing to put a lot of work into another part of his body – his brain. He revealed this in an interview with “Men’s Health”.
He has integrated certain routines into his everyday life for better mental health. “I’ve always been very consistent with my training commitments. But recently I’ve felt the importance of taking time for myself, without outside voices or stimulation.” In these moments of silence, he meditates a lot and does breathing exercises, either in the sauna or the ice bath.
He’s also tweaked his evening routine: “I try to stay away from screens for an hour before going to bed. Reading most evenings definitely helps.”
In the Disney and National Geographic series “Limitless” last year, Hemsworth set out to find ways to fight age and extend his life. He also underwent medical examinations, which revealed that he had inherited the APOE4 gene from both his mother and father’s sides. This increases the chance of him developing Alzheimer’s eight to tenfold.
“They took all my blood work and ran a bunch of tests. The plan was to give me the results on camera and talk about how we could improve this and that,” Hemsworth said. The doctor on the show preferred to tell him the results over the phone. “It was pretty shocking,” the “Thor” actor recalled.
He was also offered to do the episode without mentioning the results, which he declined for selfless reasons. “If that motivates people to take better care of themselves and understand that there are steps you can take, then all the better.”
