US actress Gwyneth Paltrow (50, “Shakespeare in Love”, “Avengers: Endgame”) has to answer to a civil lawsuit in court after a skiing accident. The Hollywood star was present at the start of the trial in the winter sports resort of Park City (US state of Utah).

In 2019, a skier filed a lawsuit. Paltrow was skiing “out of control” on a slope and injured him in a collision, the plaintiff alleges in court documents. The incident happened in 2016 in the Deer Valley ski area.

Paltrow countersued

Paltrow’s attorney denied the allegations in his opening statement. He described the actress as a “cautious” skier. Not Paltrow, but the plaintiff caused the accident. He was driving behind her on the runway and had to swerve to avoid the collision.

The plaintiff, who alleged broken ribs and a brain injury, among other things, had originally demanded more than three million US dollars in damages. A judge has since dismissed some of the allegations, reducing the potential compensation claim to $300,000.

Paltrow has filed a countersuit. Eight jurors are required to make a decision in the trial. The process is expected to take about a week, US media reported.
