At the Prime Minister’s Conference, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (64) agreed with the state leaders on the financing of the 49-euro ticket – and thus on a successor to the 9-euro ticket. It is marketed as the “Deutschlandticket”, costs 49 euros a month and is valid nationwide on local public transport.

“The 49-euro ticket will come,” confirmed Lower Saxony’s Prime Minister Stephan Weil (63) on November 2nd at a press conference after the discussions. If it is possible, the “Deutschlandticket” should be available from January 1, 2023. If this does not work, it should at least be introduced as soon as possible.

“Der Spiegel” had previously reported that the introduction of the “Deutschlandticket”, which is a monthly subscription, was planned “as soon as possible” according to the decision. “It has never been easier to use the bus and train than with this Germany ticket,” said Transport Minister Volker Wissing (52) and also confirmed that the goal was to introduce the ticket at the turn of the year.
