The “Dark” co-creators of the series Jantje Friese (45) and Baran bo Odar (44) had provided their fans with “1899” with a new mystery series. The eight episodes from season one were released on November 17, 2022 on Netflix. Now the series creators have announced on Instagram that the series will not have a second season.
“It is with a heavy heart that we must inform you that ‘1899’ will not be renewed,” the writer and director said in a statement on Monday (January 2). “We would have loved to have completed this incredible journey with a second and third season, like we did with Dark. But sometimes things don’t go the way you plan. That’s life.” You are aware that this will disappoint millions of fans. “But we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being a part of this adventure.”
“1899” takes place on board an ocean liner at the turn of the century. The steamship “Kerberos” is supposed to reach New York, but on the way Captain Eyk Larsen (Andreas Pietschmann, 53) picks up a radio message from another ship. The “Prometheus” belongs to the same shipping company and went missing in the Atlantic some time ago. A rescue mission is launched. Meanwhile, strange and inexplicable incidents are beginning to increase on the “Kerberos”. The mystery series made it into the top ten series in 90 countries in four days, making it more successful than The Crown.
