Pixar Animation Studios and Disney released Wednesday’s teaser trailer for “Lightyear”, a prequel to “Toy Story,” which stars Evans as the titular space explorer. This heroic astronaut, unlike Buzz Lightyear fans know and love is not a toy.
“Lightyear,” directed by veteran Pixar animator Angus MacLane tells the story of the rocketeer who inspired this idealistic action figure (voiced by Tim Allen in “Toy Story” movies).
Evans stated Wednesday that he believes the phrase “a dream come true” is a common phrase. However, he said it in a statement.
“Anyone who knows me will know that I have a deep love for animated films. It’s amazing to be part of Pixar and work alongside these brilliant artists, who tell stories like no one else. It is magical to watch them at work. Every day I am humbled.”
The brief teaser trailer shows Buzz Lightyear, a human, preparing for an adventurous space mission to infinity. It is soundtracked by David Bowie’s “Starman.”
The animated feature “Lightyear”, which Disney and Pixar released in theaters June 17, is the fifth Disney/Pixar “Toy Story”-related film. It follows the 1995 original and its three sequels.
Evans tweeted Wednesday, “I’m covered with goosebumps.”
“And will be each time I see this trailer. Or hear a Bowie song. Have any thoughts whatsoever between now- July. Nothing has made me feel more joyful and grateful than the knowledge that I’m part of this. It’s almost always on my mind.
