Ibrahim Kamara, the brand’s newest member, is now the brand’s art director and image director.
On Saturday, the label announced via social media that Ibrahim Kamara joined Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh(tm), as Art & Image director. He will join a group of creatives to oversee the brand’s artistic direction. Further, the message read: “Ibrahim’s relationships with Virgil ™ and Off-White(tm), born and nurtured via DM messages on Instagram have blossomed both personally as well as professionally over the past three years creating a strong connection based on mutual respect. He will continue to expand his knowledge and influence on the brand’s content, image, and collections.
Andrea Grilli, Off-White(tm), CEO, commented on the appointment. “In the wake Virgil’s tragic passing we have been tirelessly working to keep his legacy alive. The brand remains relevant as a reference point and platform in constant development. We are inspired by Virgil’s vision and approach towards his art and have nurtured a group of creative minds who represent the best in their field and have a strong, personal connection to Virgil. He said, “Having Ibrahim, who has been a part of the Off White(tm) family for many years styling our shows and to oversee art, creative, and brand development in the next chapter, is a great honour.”
Kamara is well-known in the fashion industry, having been a stylist and art directors for brands such as Burberry, Dior, and Stella McCartney. The creative is the editor-in-chief at Dazed, in addition to his new position at Off-White(tm). Kamara is a long-standing collaborator and friend to Abloh. He also participated in projects such as the posthumous Louis Vuitton show for Spring/Summer 2022, and Fall/Winter 2022.
Kamara expressed his excitement about joining Off-White(tm), in a press release. “Virgil will always be with us. With me. He made a difference in the world and left a lasting impression on all who met him. He was generous with his time, creativity and mind. He saw everyone and thought of all. As Off-White’s Art & Image Director, I feel honored to continue my ties with the company and to be part of the team that will complete the story Virgil began writing for us all.
