Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have named their daughter after the monarch, Lilibet, who was born in 1897.
Over the weekend, Queen Elizabeth celebrated many important milestones!
Her first birthday was celebrated by her great-granddaughter Lilibet, her namesake Lilibet.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shared a new picture of their daughter Lili, who turned one on Saturday. This photo was taken at Lili’s birthday celebration on Saturday at Frogmore Cottage in the U.K., half a mile away from Windsor Castle, Queen Elizabeth II’s home.
The photo was taken at a backyard picnic at Frogmore Cottage, where close friends and relatives celebrated the birthday. The shot was taken by Misan Harriman (who also took Meghan and Harry’s maternity shots while they were pregnant with Lili),
Lili seems to have taken her father’s signature red hairstyle and curious eyes from him!
The monarch’s childhood nickname was Lilibet, and Lili is the name of Lili. Harry and the Queen spoke out about their hopes of naming their daughter Lilibet after them. A spokesperson for the couple told PEOPLE previously.
“The Duke spoke to his family before the announcement. In fact, his grandmother was the first person he called. During that conversation, he shared his hopes of naming their daughter Lilibet after her. They wouldn’t have chosen the name if she hadn’t been supportive.”
Queen Elizabeth’s father King George VI loved Lilibet and once said about his daughters: “Lilibet, my pride.” Margaret is my joy.” It was her family’s pet name, and most notably Prince Philip. Princess Alexandra, her older cousin, still uses the name.
Lilibet Diana MountbattenWindsor is Harry’s beloved mother.
