so much can go wrong, if a perpetrator uses pepper spray against the police, believes Politiforbundet.
Police officers across the country encounter more often on the illegal use of pepper spray after spray with extracts of chili or cayenne pepper 1. January 2019 was made legal in a private home.
This shows an access of the 12 police districts, according to DR News.
Since the pepper spray was made legal in a private home, there have been about 1500 cases of the illegal use, possession or introduction of pepper spray, showing access to the file.
Police do not keep stats with pepper spray, so the figures are subject to uncertainty. Each circuit has manually searched for “pepper spray” under the category “våbenlov, in the way”.
But Politiforbundet confirms that cops across the country have met several pebersprays in the year than in the past. It is, according to chairman Claus Oxfeldt “no doubt”.
– This is what we feared. And the concern has unfortunately been made a reality. It is drønhamrende too bad that we now see more pepper Tavla spray out in the public space than in the past.
It was almost comical, if it were not so serious. If we are faced with a perpetrator, who suddenly squirts it in the face of the us, so can that go really very wrong. So we must take our precautions, says Claus Oxfeldt to Ritzau.
The trend is confirmed by figures from four of the police districts, which has given access to the number of cases of illegal pepper spray last year.
Three of the police districts has so far experienced a doubling. The last circle a tripling of cases compared to last year.
pepper spray was, until the turn of the year completely illegal in Denmark. But VLAK-the government adopted, together with the Danish people’s Party, that it should be legal to use pepper spray as defense in their own home.
DR News access to show, moreover, that the 113 has been exposed to hjemmerøverier, after the law came into force. In none of the cases has pepper spray been used as self-defense.
– It is used as a assault weapon and not as a defense weapons as intended, says Claus Oxfeldt to Ritzau.
The Conservative chairman, Søren Pape Poulsen, was minister of justice, when the law was introduced. He maintains that it was the right thing to do.
– It is important for me is not whether it has been used or not. The important thing is whether the people who want to have the opportunity to defend their own home, have had the opportunity for it, he says to DR News.
The current justice minister, Nick Hækkerup (S), voted last year against the law. He is still against it, but has not taken a position on whether he will cancel it.
It will take a position after an evaluation, he says to DR News.
pepper spray may only be used for self-defense. Illegal use of pepper spray is punishable as a starting point with a fine of 3000 dollars.
