“Directly embarrassing”. “A scandal.”
FDM is out with the rake after the Volkswagen, after three popular cars from the major automotive group drawers hideously in a security test.
By the so-called Euro NCAP-safety tests in december live the VW group’s popular mikrobiler VW Up, Skoda Citigo and Seat Mii not meet expectations and have to make do with three of the maximum five stars.
The FDM’s representative in the Euro NCAP, Søren W. Rasmussen, is appalled by the result.
“That the car (automatic, red.) emergency brake is cancelled, is in itself a scandal. The cars have certainly got vognbaneassistent and speed limiter fitted as standard, but it does not change the fact that security overall is below the level you should be able to expect. Three Euro NCAP stars is directly embarrassing for the VW group, it should rethink its strategy, and upgrade security as soon as possible,” says Søren W. Rasmussen to the FDM.
the test result could also gain importance for the danes, who are considering to buy one of the three popular mikrobiler.
The pauvre result means that the cars lose their sikkerhedsfradrag at 6.800 Danish kroner, which is triggered by the maximum five Euro NCAP stars.
A result both the VW Up, Skoda Citigo and Seat Mii obtained, when they were last tested in 2011.
Since the requirements for the security has been strengthened, and for new year they get even a nøk up.
About the dealers in the end choose to let the car buyers pay afgiftsstigningen at 6.800 crowns or parts of it, is yet to be seen.
Where FDM lashing out at Volkswagen for the new and poorer results in sikkerhedstesten, sees the carmaker as a success.
“the VW Up was re-evaluated in the year and achieved three stars, as we hoped it would,” says a spokesperson from Volkswagen, according to the british bilmedie AutoExpress.
the Spokesperson adds that the three stars is a ‘very good rating’ for the new and tougher requirements have been introduced.
After sikkerhedstesten will FDM not directly advise against the danes to buy VW Up, Skoda Citigo and Seat Mii, but Søren W. Rasmussen could not bring himself to recommend them.
the VW Up was in the beginning of december the 13. most sold car in Denmark. There was, according to the FDM has been sold 3.570 copies nationwide. Also the Skoda Citigo and Seat Mii has for many years been among the most popular mini-cars among the Danish car buyers.
62 of the 83 tested vehicles have scored the maximum five stars in Euro NCAP-sikkerhedstesten, since the requirements were raised in 2018.
