The Company Committee of the Siro biscuit maker in Venta de Baños (Palencia) intends to gather on Wednesday at the gates of the Cortes de Castilla y León to give visibility to the problem and try to meet with the president of the Board, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, to to be able to tackle the situation that the Palencia plant is experiencing.
This has been confirmed to Ical by the president of the Siro Cookies Company Committee, Mari Mar Rodríguez, who has conveyed that there is real discomfort over the statements made last Tuesday by the Minister of Economy and Finance, Carlos Fernández Carriedo, in which urged the parties to seek an agreement. In this sense, the union leader has assured that they will ask for explanations before the words of the counselor who pointed out that the problem only affects one plant, the biscuit maker located in Venta de Baños, and not the total closure of the company in the Community.
Mari Mar Rodríguez has made it clear that she finds it “regrettable” that they have not yet been received by representatives of the Junta de Castilla y León, despite the fact that “a long time ago” they requested this meeting since they saw “that something was happening and it was not going well” . “They did not receive us at the time and we will write again to achieve this meeting,” she added. «We want to ask for help, because I think they knew a little about the situation of the company. We want the Board to lend us a hand, either with investments or other actions, because I see the plant as competitive”.
The union leader has pointed out that she does not understand the reason why “from night to day” they have gone from being immersed in a viability plan, which provided a future for the Venta de Baños biscuit plant, to moving on to the argument of the lack of competitiveness.
Production has dropped in those moments in which it has been transferred to companies based in Portugal, although the company was justified in defending the arrival of other lines, something that has been shown to “be a lie”. “They have blatantly deceived the workers,” he asserted in statements collected by Ical.
These new actions are added to the concentration that will take place this Sunday, at 12 noon, in the Plaza de la Constitución of the municipality of Venteño before the decision to close the company’s plant.
