About 65,000 people attended the first seven post-pandemic concerts at the Videotron Center, a score that confirms that people were bored of attending shows, estimates the chief operating officer of Quebecor Group Sports and entertainment, Martin Tremblay .

“We are very happy with the response from the public. After two years of isolation and confinement, without cultural activities, I see a craze. Almost all of our scheduled events are going really well,” said Mr. Tremblay.

The Imagine Dragons doubleheader, which drew 25,000 spectators, is without a doubt the highlight of the relaunch so far. The capital was also one of the rare cities of the group’s North American tour to receive two concerts.

“I like to hear that Quebec City, a medium-sized city, does better than big cities for certain artists,” says Martin Tremblay proudly.

Different expectations

Les Cowboys Fringants and Billy Talent also gathered more than 10,000 people in the Videotron Centre. Martin Tremblay also ranks Avril Lavigne’s visit among the successes. “Expectations are not always the same. Five thousand people for Avril Lavigne is super good. This is the gauge we had planned. »

The next few months will also be busy. Next week, we will notably be able to see Primus and the combo Megadeth – Lamb of God. Within three weeks, a few shows will be added to the fall schedule, which currently displays the names of Luke Combs and Stromae.

classic rock

One thing is certain, fans of classic rock are served. In addition to Megadeth, they were able to reconnect with Judas Priest recently. Over the next few months, Roger Waters, Scorpions, The Australian Pink Floyd and Journey will tickle their nostalgic streak.

Certainly, this musical genre continues to impose itself, but Martin Tremblay points out that young artists are not forgotten.

“Greta Van Fleet, he says, is a young group that has never been to Quebec and we think we are going to do well. »

In his view, the Videotron Center offers balanced programming that touches on all genres. “We’ve done Loud before and it worked really well. You have to listen to what people want to hear. »
