When a new epidemic emerged from Spain at the beginning of 2021, the rest of Europe took little notice. Corona dominated social conversation too much. And immediately we were probably not affected enough. This new epidemic was caused by a pathogen that, unlike the always headline-grabbing Sars-CoV-2, is an old acquaintance: EHV-1. A herpes virus.
