In the past few days there has been a lot of publicity surrounding the future funding of midwives in hospitals. The trigger was a financial reform of statutory health insurance: the so-called GKV Financial Stabilization Act stipulated that midwives in clinics, along with other professional groups, should no longer be financed from the care budget from 2025. The Bundestag had already passed it in October. For example, midwives on childbed wards would have been affected by the change, but not those in the delivery room.
