The negative film award Goldene Raspberry (Razzie), also known as the anti-Oscar, has been awarded in the aura of the Academy Awards for over 40 years. Again this year, on the day before the Oscars, particularly bad performances in front of and behind the camera will be “appreciated” with a wink. However, one name on the recently published list of nominees caused such an outcry that the organizers immediately promised a rule change, as “Variety” reports.

What happened? 12-year-old Ryan Kiera Armstrong was nominated in the Worst Actress category for her role in Stephen King’s Firestarter. Exposing a child with this form of malice – an absolute absurdity, according to numerous angry people in the social networks. This not only reflects maliciousness and bad taste, but also promotes bullying against the newcomer in the worst case, according to the allegations.

Razzies founder John Wilson has since apologized and confirmed that Armstrong’s name is no longer an option. As a reaction to the justified criticism, there will now be a minimum age of 18 years. Actors under this age limit are therefore no longer allowed to end up on the nomination list.

Last year, the event was also criticized in the aftermath, but could do less for it. At that time, actor Bruce Willis (67) was even awarded one of the prizes in a special category called “Worst performance by Bruce Willis in 2021”.

A little later, however, it became public knowledge that Willis suffers from aphasia, damage to the language center in the brain. “After much thought and deliberation, the Razzies have made the decision to reverse the Razzie Award bestowed on Bruce Willis based on his recently announced diagnosis,” it said.
