The Tomb Raider series is one of the best-selling game series in the world and has already been filmed several times. The wave of success is set to continue: Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Amazon and dj2 Entertainment have teamed up to create a new Tomb Raider movie. Neither party has yet officially commented on the deal.
In addition, a TV series by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (37) and at least one video game in the Lara Croft franchise is planned, which was announced in December. The franchise aims to create a connected world of Tomb Raider in which the film, series and game are connected in a similar way as is already the case with Marvel.
In “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” (2001) and the sequel “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life” (2003) actress Angelina Jolie (47) embodied the protagonist. In 2018 Alicia Vikander (34) took over the role for the reboot “Tomb Raider”. In July 2022, MGM lost the film rights to the franchise, after which plans for a Vikander sequel were dropped. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is set to write the script for the TV series but will not be involved in the film or the game.
