Commissioner Adam Raczek aka Lucas Gregorowicz (46) celebrated his farewell in the last Brandenburg “Polizeiruf 110: Abgrund” (December 2022). That’s why the new guy has to go hunting criminals alone from now on. For Vincent Ross (André Kaczmarczyk, 37) “Police Call 110: The God of Bankruptcy” (February 5, 8:15 p.m., the first) is only the third case and yet he takes over the lead in a mysterious murder case. However, Ross is not on the road all alone, but is given a helping hand…

Antoni Mazur (Frank Jendrzytza, 56) is found dead in a gravel pit. 500 meters away is the Way of St. James, which leads directly through Brandenburg. The dead man, a Polish citizen, was apparently with many other pilgrims. A policeman from the nearby police station in Lebus, Karl Rogov (Frank Leo Schröder, 62), found him. He immediately takes over the questioning of the pilgrims. For Detective Inspector Vincent Ross, this support comes in handy.

It turns out that Mazur had massive financial problems and was facing bankruptcy proceedings. His wife Lina (Katrin Heller) and his father Klaudiusz (Roman Wieslaw Zanowicz, 70) report the enormous pressure that insolvency administrator Udo Schick (Bernhard Schir, 60) and his debt adviser Jonathan Hueter (Godehard Giese, 50) are said to have put on him . Coincidentally, the insolvency administrator’s daughter, Maria Schick (Anna-Maria Bednarzik), is also on the pilgrimage route and the two met shortly before Mazur’s death. Does chic have anything to do with death? What does the “god of bankruptcy” know?

Yes, because in “Police Call 110: The God of Bankruptcy” the audience sees Vincent Ross investigate alone for the first time. You slowly get to know the character, who maneuvers through the case with a lot of charm and wit. It’s a welcome change to experience a detective who isn’t your standard cop. However, fans of Adam Raczek will be disappointed, because only a bottle of schnapps left behind reminds them of their retired colleague. Ross rarely speaks to him, which makes it clear: the baton has been passed on, a look back or a pause is not intended here after the departure.

So that Ross doesn’t have to investigate completely alone, the makers brought him a partner on board. Karl Rogov is an old policeman who is at the end of his career. But thanks to Ross, who involves him and is happy for his support, he really blossoms. Actor Frank Leo Schröder embodies the anti-hero in a very credible way, like Adam Raczek before him, he forms a counterpoint to the horse – albeit with less friction. Will we see the character again? This is left open at the end.

At the center of the story are people who are on the brink of financial difficulties. Fear of existence, desperation and helplessness hang over the protagonist like a dark cloud. You get an insight into the process of insolvency administration, even if only a rough one. Unfortunately, the tension falls a bit short. Even if there are a few twists and turns in the case, it’s not the big hit in the end. Nevertheless, “Call 110: The God of Bankruptcy” is a solid crime thriller that shows that the character Vincent Ross works without Adam Raczek.
