At the opening show of the current “Let’s Dance” season, “GNTM” winner Alex Mariah Peter (25) landed in the solid midfield with 15 points. The transgender model has little dance experience. “Apart from three weeks of ballet and a year of Funkenmariechen as a child, I have hardly any experience worth mentioning,” explains the 25-year-old in an interview with spot on news. On a scale of 1 to 10, she would rate herself as a “solid 2”.
Modeling does not give her any advantages when it comes to dancing. “Even after the first basic training units, I noticed that the posture when dancing is completely different. While modeling usually tells you ‘lengthen yourself’, ‘shoulders back and chest out’, when dancing it’s often the opposite – no hollow back, rather bent forward. I don’t think I have an advantage there.”
The situation is different with the dance outfits. “As a model, you never have a say in that. That’s why I’m very uncomplicated when it comes to outfits and costumes. I’m looking forward to the Latin dance costumes, because there’s probably more going on with sequins and fringes and you can play with them a lot. At the ballroom dances are more elegant.”
Peter is well aware that her body will change over the next few weeks due to the intensive training. “It must be necessary.” However, it is important that you “show yourself in every physical condition and stop constantly addressing or evaluating it.” Mentally, too, she tackles the challenge with renewed strength. “I think I’m in a very stable state right now in terms of my mental health. If something should happen, I have a great environment that can and would support me at any time,” the 25-year-old is certain.
