ARD is setting up a new studio in the center of the Ukrainian capital of Kiev. This was announced by the public West German Broadcasting Corporation (WDR), which is in charge, on Friday in Cologne. It is not yet known who will take over. The Ukraine was previously part of the reporting area of the ARD studio Moscow.
Russia has been at war with Ukraine for a year. WDR director Tom Buhrow said: “We don’t know when this war will end. In any case, its consequences will keep us busy for a very long time.” The broadcaster boss added: “It is all the more important that we have a long-term presence in Kiev in order to be able to ensure independent reporting from the country for our audience.”
