Former Federal Finance Minister Theo Waigel (CSU) has never let scissors near his eyebrows – and when in doubt he gets angry.
“No one has ever been allowed to use scissors on my eyebrows,” he told the “Augsburger Allgemeine”. “Recently there was a TV crew at my house. Someone wanted to cut something up there. I said: Please don’t do that! I’ll kill you!”
Even if he withdrew from the front row of politics a long time ago, he is still sometimes recognized today. “Two years ago I was in Tyrol when a man came up to me, looked at me and said: But you’re not Theo Waigel?” Waigel said in the newspaper interview. “I said: No. Then he said: That’s right, he’s already died. I then answered him: You’re right – three years ago or so.”
Theo Waigel once raved about an Italian star
And Waigel confessed something else to the “Augsburger Allgemeine”: a great crush on Gina Lollobrigida. “In the 1950s, Gina Lollobrigida was the most beautiful woman in the world for me. I admit: I might have become insecure about my affection for Franz Josef Strauss and the Junge Union,” said the 83-year-old.
Decades later he was at a benefit event where the actress was supposed to be too. “But suddenly someone came and said she was unwell and would rather stay in her room. I told him that it had been a dream of my youth to meet this woman. Then he went up to the room and introduce yourself : Half an hour later she came down and we had a nice evening,” Waigel recalled in the newspaper interview, adding: “By the way, I would like to emphasize that my wife Irene was also there.”
The Italian cinema legend Lollobrigida died on January 16 at the age of 95.
