There were moments of shock for the passengers of the Lufthansa plane LH469. One of them: Matthew McConaughey’s wife Camila Alves McConaughey. On Wednesday evening (local time) she was on board when the plane encountered turbulence. The plane was on its way from Texas to Frankfurt, but then had to stop in Washington D.C. land.
“On last night’s flight, I was told the plane fell almost 4,000 feet, seven people were hospitalized and everything was flying everywhere,” Alves McConaughey reported on Instagram.
It is not known whether the machine actually fell 4,000 feet, but according to the Washington Post, other passengers also reported a descent. “To respect the privacy of people around me, that’s all I’m showing, but the plane was a mess and the turbulence kept coming,” the 41-year-old model said of the situation on board. She also posts a short clip showing items from the galley on the floor of the machine.
According to Lufthansa, the air movements were so-called clear air turbulence, which can occur without visible weather phenomena and prior warning. The machine, which started in Austin, Texas, was caught in turbulence 90 minutes after taking off. According to US media reports, the airport operator in Washington – the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority – and the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that seven people had been taken to hospitals. These are minor injuries.
Alves McConaughey continued her journey the next day. Also on Instagram, she recently posted a story about herself on board a new machine. The pilot had just announced that turbulence was to be expected after departure from Washington, she explained. “Just my luck,” she said sarcastically.
