After countless speculations about the participation of Prince Harry (38) and Duchess Meghan (41) in the coronation of Charles III. (74) it is now at least certain that the king’s youngest son and his wife have received an invitation. As Roya Nikkhah, Royal editor of “The Sunday Times” writes on Twitter, a spokesman for the Sussexes has certified this.
“I can confirm that the Duke has recently received email correspondence from His Majesty’s Office regarding the coronation,” Nikkhah quoted a statement as saying. “We will not be announcing an immediate decision as to whether the Duke and Duchess will attend at this time.” It is therefore still unclear whether they will actually travel to the coronation, which is planned for May 6th.
As part of the publication of Harry’s autobiography “Reserve” (original title: “Spare”) there had been speculation over the past few weeks as to whether Harry and Meghan would take part. The 38-year-old had written, among other things, about arguments with other members of the Royals. British media such as the “Sun” recently reported that shortly after the book was published, Charles allegedly decided that Harry and Meghan should move out of Frogmore Cottage.
Although the couple live in the US with their children Archie, 3, and Lilibet, 1, their home has been in England until now. They had been given the house by Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022). A spokesman for Harry and his wife confirmed “that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been asked to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage”. Among other things, Royal expert Omid Scobie (41), who is considered a close friend of the couple, made the statement.
The coronation ceremony for King Charles III, who will visit Germany at the end of March, will take place at Westminster Abbey in London on May 6th. There will also be a carriage procession and the traditional appearance of the royal family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. A music concert and light show are planned for the following Sunday at Windsor Castle. Finally, on May 8th, Brits will have an additional public holiday with events honoring people who volunteer.
