Filmmaker James Gunn (56, “Suicide Squad”) will direct a new “Superman” adventure.

The film, titled “Superman: Legacy,” will hit theaters on July 11, 2025, Gunn announced on Twitter on Wednesday. This is the date of birth of his father, who died three years ago. He didn’t understand him as a child, but he supported his love of comics and his love of film. “I wouldn’t be making this film today without him,” Gunn wrote. The director also wrote the screenplay.

“Superman: Legacy” looks at the origins of the superhero who is sent to Earth from the planet Krypton by his parents. There he is found by a childless couple in the US state of Kansas and grows up as Clark Kent. Nothing was initially known about the cast. What is certain, however, is that the British actor Henry Cavill (“Man of Steel”) will not slip into the superhero cape again for this film.
