The best deals often happen by accident. This is what happened to Katrin Berger. The 61-year-old bought a beautiful brooch at a flea market in Kyritz an der Knatter. She also liked to wear it to festive occasions or to the opera, but now she would like to sell the good piece at “Bares für Rares”.
The brooch is well received there: “Boy, boy, boy, what a stone,” says moderator Horst Lichter, looking at the large gemstone that is emblazoned in the middle. Heide Rezepa-Zabel estimates that the piece of jewelery was made in the 1950s. The design is typical of the time. But what is anything but ordinary: The beautiful stone in the middle. An untreated aquamarine, as the expert says.
In view of this expertise, Berger’s demand does not sound outrageous: the seller would like a minimum of 1000 euros. But Rezepa-Zabel clearly goes above and beyond that. The gold value alone amounts to around 380 euros. But then there is the stone, which is worth 4,000 to 4,400 euros.
Horst Lichter can hardly believe his ears: “No, Heide!” He calls out in surprise. “Without nonsense?” The saleswoman reacts much cooler to the expertise: “You’re satisfied with that,” says Katrin Berger. She has every reason to do so: the expert estimates the total value at 4400 to 4800 euros.
But the sum turns Berger’s head a little. Because if she had been satisfied with 1000 euros before, she now adapts very quickly to the new situation and suddenly names 4000 euros as the desired price in the dealer room. The bids are there at 2600 euros. But Wolfgang Pauritsch and Lisa Nüdling pull together, the latter finally buys the brooch for 3300 euros.
Due to the big difference to her purchase price, saleswoman Katrin Berger is now going home with a good feeling. Maybe she’ll dawdle with the money again.
